Maldives boasts more than 1000 islands spread over 90,000 square kilometres of the Indian Ocean. A selection of these have been opened to tourism and become home to exclusive resorts. Such exclusivity prides itself in uncrowded luxury of crystal beaches, bright blue skies, endless sunshine and eco-friendly retreats of rejuvenation and pampering. Unless you own your own island, there are probably few other places in the world that will offer such an exclusively dreamy tropical beach hideaway.
Surrounded by unspoiled oceans, it is no surprise that Maldives island resorts offer the perfect setting for unbelievable diving and snorkeling excursions. Dive instructors are on hand to teach you the ropes before exploring the impressive coral reefs of the area.
The capital city of Malé has a livelier existence with a bustling, bazaar-filled, modern Islamic culture. Whether on the main island or smaller resort hideouts, magnificent sunsets, superb cuisine and the freshest seafood is a guarantee.
We couldn’t think of a more romantic place to tie the knot. Maldives offers a beautiful beach setting, ideal weather and fine attention to detail in its high standard of hospitality. Popular amongst honeymooners, the islands are the perfect start to your new life together.
With water clear enough to see the passing fish as far as fifty metres away, divers can spend endless days exploring the oceans magnificent reefs. Over a thousand species of fish and other underwater creatures inhabit the Maldivian waters.
Non-divers can also enjoy the reefs by grabbing a snorkel and flippers or simply cruising into the sunset with a cocktail in hand.
Its warm, tropical climate makes the Maldives ideally consistent at around 30°C year-round (both in and out the water). The warm seas of the Maldives have high visibility throughout the year.
Cooled by sea breezes, the best time to visit the Maldives is during December to April when there is least rain. However, this high tourist season also makes it a pricey time to explore the islands and requires booking well in advance. November and April are best for diving, while the best time for surfing is from March to May and again from September to November.

Sunscreen. Since you’ll be spending a little more time soaking up the sunshine, we recommend easing into it with a good layer of sunscreen. We also recommend (since you’ll be spending more time outdoors) that you leave most of your technological devices at home. Resorts do have Wi-Fi, although the signal strength may not always be that great. Many resorts have a no drone policy, and they take it seriously. We know the islandic views and unbelievable colours are tempting, but leave the drone at home.
With a varied and extravagant choice of islands, there are a few popular choices for their own unique offerings. The capital, Male provides a touristic and cultural experience of markets, seafood and also boasts a 17th-century mosque made of carved white coral. Maafushi is a top choice for honeymooners, while Addu Attoll is popular for scuba diving, snorkeling and spotting manta ray. Scattered with palms and surrounded by crystal clear waters, Addu City is the second-largest urban area in Maldives, in terms of population, and is one of the two urban areas to get the status of “city” other than the capital.
Maldives has a variety of resorts each located on their own private island making their beaches luxuriously crowd-free. There is catering to backpackers on the main island, however the majority of visitors book all-inclusive packages on a single resort island, soaking up the sun on the pristine beaches, learning to surf, or exploring the impressive coral reefs. Resorts vary from family-friendly hotels to adults only and eco-focused lodges. Whether high-end luxury, conventional or island-style elegance – none are likely to disappoint.
Being somewhat remote, resorts cater to everything you may need without having to go very far. That means from the moment you arrive you’ll have everything at your fingertips from beachside cocktails and spa facilities, to watersports activities and tea-time snacks.
While Maldives isn’t quite known for shopping sprees and city hustle, the busy capital city of Malé with its beautiful mosques, bazaars and interesting museums will ease any itch you get while savouring the tranquility of the otherwise rather laid-back island life.
The Maldives offer a variety of watersport, diving courses, snorkeling and fishing. Head to Fuamulaku and go on a jungle hike to explore the island’s great biodiversity. For an even more extravagant scene, head up into the sky in a seaplane. Take a local cooking lesson, watch the sunset on a catamaran cruise and embark on an island-hopping tour where you can encounter breath-taking whale sharks.
